‘Forever Marilyn’ adds to Coachella Valley visit

Other cities want her, but latest extension good until Sept. 10

PALM SPRINGS — “Forever Marilyn” it seems, is going to stay in Palm Springs just a bit longer, officials said Saturday.

Aftab Dada, chairman of PS Resorts, the consortium of Palm Springs hotels charged with developing events and programming to attract tourists to town, said another extension has been obtained, which will keep the 26-foot-tall statue of Marilyn Monroe at its current location until Sept. 10.

“But if we need any additional extensions, I’m quite confident that the Sculpture Foundation will grant us that,” Dada added.

The Sculpture Foundation is a Santa Monica-based group that owns the statue. Dada said he has been negotiating with the group to keep Marilyn in Palm Springs permanently.
